Knitting Scarves

Knitting scarves is a perfect gift making activity. You can knit in your spare time, while you watch TV, or whatever! They are perfect Christmas gifts, but also work well with any occasion during the winter months.

An excellent resource on knitting is knittinghelp.com. It has lots of videos to see all kinds of knitting steps that you need. Watching someone knit, or in this case, watching a video of someone knitting is the best way to learn how to knit. So if you?d like to learn, or need a refresher course, check this website out!

Now for the scarf that I made, you’ll need-
  • Size 15(US) knitting needles
  • One skein of thick textured yarn
  • Large sewing needle to weave yarn ends

1. I doubled the yarn for the big knitting needles. So I used the end on the outside, and found the inside end of the yarn, and put those together.

2. I used the long tail cast on (See the video on knittinghelp.com) and knitted 15 stitches.

3. I knitted using the English method, also known as the American method, and just knit every stitch of the scarf. So no purl stitches. And I just knit my heart out until I was about 3 feet away from the end of the yarn.

4. Then I cast off, and I wove the tail into the scarf.

Knitting scarves is so much fun! I hope you’ll try your hand at it too.
