Make a Handmade Necklace
Here is an easy way to make an elegant looking beaded handmade necklace. It's very simple, yet looks like you bought it from a store. You can find all of these supplies at any craft store in the jewelry/beading aisle.
What you'll need-
- Crimping tool
- Wire cutters
- Flexible beading wire
- Beads of your choice of design and color
- Crimp beads
- Necklace Clasp
- Ruler
1. First, you’ll want to decide how long you want your necklace. You can measure around your neck and go from there. Or, just know that chokers are usually 15”-16” long, and a princess length is usually 18”-20” long. Once you’ve figured out how long you want it, measure that length out in flexible beading wire. Add 2 inches to that, and then cut it.
2. Then you’ll decide on your design that you want. I used one bead as a focal point, and then made either side symmetrical. String your beads on the whole necklace. It’s easy to just start from the middle bead and work both sides from there. Make sure to leave one inch of wire on both sides exposed.
3. Then you’ll attach the crimp beads. To do this you’ll want to tape one end of the necklace so the beads won’t fall off while you’re working with the other side. String a crimp bead about 1” from the end of the beading wire. Insert the wire through the clasp and then string it back through the crimp bead, forming a loop. Slide the crimp next to the clasp. Place the crimp bead in the inner jaw of the crimping tool. Squeeze hard –this will create a dent in the flattened bead. Turn the flattened bead to be vertical and move it into the outer jaws. Squeeze gently to fold the bead back to a round shape. Repeat on the other end of the necklace to connect the other loop of the clasp.
Then you can make or buy a nice jewelry box to give this handmade necklace away.
